Italy's Minister for Industry Giancarlo Giorgetti has said that he and French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire had not discussed the possibility of Rome purchasing a stake in automaker Stellantis at a meeting earlier today.
Stellantis
Stellantis was formed in January following the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group.
The French government was a former PSA investor and now holds a 5.7% stake in Stellantis.
Rumours about an Italian purchase began in January following comments by the country's Deputy Economy Minister Antonio Misiani, who said the idea of Rome acquiring a stake in the automaker should not be considered taboo.
Last month a new government, led by former ECB head Mario Draghi, was formed and Misiani no longer holds his position.

“We haven’t discussed the possibility of the state’s entrance in Stellantis,” said Industry Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti during a joint media conference.
Le Maire pointed out that Stellantis was a private company.
“It’s a wonderful industrial operation, and a sign of cooperation and willingness of Italy and France to work together,” he said.
