AMable, a part of the EU Horizon 2020 programme that is looking to speed up the adoption of 3D printing has announced the third open call grant of €450,000 for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) using additive manufacturing.
The aim is to offer support to SMEs that are integrating the technology in various sectors including automotive, aerospace and healthcare. The grant is looking to aid development of new products and drive competitiveness in Europe.
Driving European 3D Printing
Horizon 2020 is the largest EU Research and Innovation programme, with capacity to allocate a total of €80-billion over seven years. Coordinated by German research institute Fraunhofer ILT, AMable is a consortium within Horizon 2020 specifically dedicated to additive manufacturing. Its interest in the technology revolve around development to ease the strain on logistical chains, storage, environmental impact, and goods insurance, while increasing products and employment at the SME level.
AMable's last call, earlier this year, offered €300,000 in grants to SMEs working with additive manufacturing. A variety of customisable products arose from the call including a 3D printing accordion from a Dutch team, and metal 3D printed conformal cooling inserts for injection moulding from CLIMATE, an Austrian - Italian collaboration.
AMable’s Third Open Call
In its third call, AMable is supported by I4MS, an EU initiative to digitalise the manufacturing industry. Training for additive manufacturing, especially where design is concerned is a core area of interest for the grant.
To be eligible for selection, SMEs are requested to submit Application Experiments proposing innovative and functional products through 3D printing. The chosen proposals will be known as “Feasibility studies” and “Good Practices,” and will receive funds ranging from €5,000 to €60,000 of aid.
The submission deadline for AMable’s Third Open Call is November 31st.
