Japanese auto parts manufacturer Toyo Tires has announced that it will open a new facility in Indjija, Serbia. The total investment is over €390-million.
“Toyo Tires is supplying tires for the European and Russian markets from factories in Japan and Malaysia. (…) The new manufacturing base in Serbia will take on a key role in this regard,” a statement from the company said.
The new Toyo facility is expected to begin production in 2022 and to have an annual capacity of five million tyres every year by 2023.
500 people will be employed at the new plant.
Serbia's president, Aleksander Vučić, said: “It is a huge investment that will be of great significance to our country,” before adding that Toyo's decision to invest in Serbia had come after three years of market research and negotiations.
