Cleaning robot helps Palmia cleaners to work more efficiently
For about a year, Palmia has been testing a cleaning robot imported by Kiilto. The Finnish provider of restaurant, security, cleaning and facility services say the robot has proven itself to be an effective tool for the professional cleaning of large, clearly demarcated spaces in particular.
“We have tested the robot in different kinds of environments. Our experience is that the cleaning robot is best suited to broad spaces without obstacles where very few changes occur”, said Palmia support service and development manager Mari Ahlgren.
“The robot works the same way every time, so the cleaning results are excellent. It stops every time in the same place, and is handy to use and charge, for example”.
The cleaning robot can run on a single charge for two to three hours. The robot is not intended to replace human workers: At Palmia, it operates first and foremost as a partner for cleaners. Thanks to the new technology, the cleaner’s working time is freed up for cleaning surfaces other than floors.
According to Ahlgren, the robot not only saves time but is also good for the environment.
“We use Kiilto’s detergents with the robot if needed, but the robot is so effective that chemicals are rarely needed. We are constantly working to make our operations more and more eco-friendly. Using the robot helps us to reduce the chemical load on the environment, making its use a perfect fit for our operating model”.
According to Ahlgren, the cleaning robot is well suited for cleaning public spaces such as lobby floors.
“These kinds of areas are more or less the business card of a building–giving a good first impression is really important. It’s also important that the floors in such areas remain safe. Well-maintained floors are not slippery and do not accumulate dust”.
Effective management of the cleaning of public spaces is a point of honour for Palmia.
“When premises are kept clean and tidy, microbes are also removed from the contact surfaces, which helps to impede the spread of infectious diseases”, Ahlgren explains.
Palmia strives to be a pioneer in the cleaning industry in other respects also.
“The world is changing, and the use of robotics is becoming more widespread. We want to experiment with different and new technologies. Cleaning robots are ideal for us, as staff are our main resource and we want to ensure that they can continue to work with high-quality and up-to-date tools. Cleaning robots can also ease their workload”.
