Romanian gas company Transgaz and Black Sea Oil & Gas have announced the signing of an agreement to build a 25 km pipeline that will transport gas from wells in the Black Sea into the country's system, said the economy ministry.
The agreement sees the construction of a pipeline from Corbu to Sacele to Cogealac to Gradina carrying gas from the Midia Natural Gas Development Project (MGD) into the National Transmission System, said the ministry press release.
The signing event was attended by representatives of both Transgaz and Black Sea Oil & Gas, as well as the Minister of Economy, Mr. Niculae Badalau and the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Mr. Costin Mihalache.
The project is set to be completed by 2021.
"This project will cover 10% of Romania's annual natural gas needs. It is the result of an investment that has so far amounted to $200-million (€182.4-million), and a further $400-million (€364.7-million) are to be invested by Black Sea Oil & Gas until construction is completed," economy minister Niculae Badalau said.
The MGD Project consists of five offshore production wells (1 subsea well at Doina field and 4 platform wells at Ana field), a subsea gas production system over the Doina well which will be connected through an 18 km pipeline with a new unmanned production platform located over Ana field.
The Ana platform will be linked to the shore via a 126 km gas pipeline, where it will meet an onshore gas treatment plant in the city of Corbu. It is estimated that it will carrying around 1 billion cubic metres annually, which is around 10% of Romania's consumption. Transgaz will deliver the processed gas to the National Transmission System.
Gas production is estimated to begin in the first quarter of 2021.
