The gala was chaired by the Portuguese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, the Chargé d`Affaires of the American Embassy in Lisbon, Kristin Kane, and the President of the American Chamber of Commerce, António Martins da Costa.
Colquímica was one of four organisations awarded with this distinction, together with EDP, Google and Marriott Hotel.
The company’s investment in the opening of a new branch in Charlotte, North Carolina, was a driving factor in it receiving this award.
Colquímica invested $12 million (€10.5 million) in its new Charlotte plant, its first steps on US soil.
The 100,000 square foot industrial complex was under construction for around a year and operations commenced in March, while the rest of the world struggled through the coronavirus pandemic. This marked the Portuguese company's fourth major plant, with it seeking to get closer to its customers in the US.
The determination and resilience to surpass all the unprecedented challenges to this project, together with the creation of dozens of jobs in Charlotte, were the reasons behind its recognition by the American Chamber of Commerce.
João Pedro Koehler highlights the “pride and honour of receiving such a prestigious award and being recognised for our contribution to the Portugal-US relations".
The Colquímica Adhesives CEO explains that “[its] aim is to position Colquímica Adhesives as a global player that promotes the growth and progress of every client and partner, so it is particularly relevant for us to be distinguished for the impact we are creating with our stakeholders".
