Gazprom chairman Alexander Dyukov
Russia's Gazprom Neft, a major oil-producing subsidiary of state-owned Gazprom, has shown interest in the acquisition of HIP Petrohemija, Serbia's state-owned petrochemicals producer, chairman Alexander Dyukov has announced, as reported by Seenews.
At a fringe meeting of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, Mr Dyukov said that Gazprom Neft is looking to intensify talks with the Serbian government on the privatisation of HIP Petrohemija.
At a meeting with Mr Dyukov, the Serbian Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic said that that HIP Petrohemija needed a strategic partner able to make enough investments to ensure long term stability for the company.
In May, State Secretary at the Economy Ministry Dragan Stevanovic said that Serbia was planning to open up a tender for the sale of its HIP Petrohemija by the end of 2019. It has been reported in Serbian media that investors from Russia, Poland and Romania have expressed interest in the privatisation of the company.
Serbian oil and gas group NIS, majority owned by Gazprom Neft, owns 12.72% shareholding interest in HIP Petrohemija, according to the teaser prospectus of the petrochemical group posted on the website of Serbia's privatisation agency.
