Vattenfall and GE Renewable Energy are to join forces for deploying the Haliade-X, GE's newest wind turbine and the largest on the market. Development and production of the 12MW turbine will take place primarily in France.

Due to a lower number of turbines needed for future windfarms, there is also a positive impact on the environmental footprint," says Gunnar Groebler, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Wind.
"Vattenfall wants to achieve fossil free living within one generation. By doing that it is also our role to use our capabilities to contribute to the development and reinforcement of the supply chain in Europe and in this particular case, in France," Groebler added.
The cooperation between the two comes after a year of intensive exchanges, and an in-depth technical due diligence with both companies working on the customisation of the platform. The last details are expected to be finalised by the summer.
The 12 MW turbine features a 220-metre rotor, a 107-metre blade (the longest ever manufactured). With the largest capacity factor in the industry, one Haliade-X turbine can generate 67 GWh annually. This is enough clean energy to supply 16,000 European households for one year, according to calculations based on wind conditions on a typical German North Sea site.
The Haliade-X prototype is due to be installed in Rotterdam this summer and first commercial units to be shipped in 2021.
