The automotive industry in Polish economy is responsible for about 8 percent of the GDP and 13 percent of domestic exports while employing almost 175 thousand people. In 2016, the value of marketed production of the Polish automotive industry amounted to PLN 135.6 billion.
According to the joint report of the Industrial Development Agency, PKO Bank Polski and the Institute for Market, Consumption and Business Cycles Research, thanks to new investments, the industry is likely to contribute to the growth of the Polish economy in the future.
“This year, the value of the exports of the Polish automotive industry will exceed PLN 100 billion — the number shows how robust the sector is in Poland. We produce electric buses that drive on the streets of Hanover. Last year, we attracted investments from automotive giants such as Daimler and Toyota. Right before our eyes, Poland is becoming a true Automotive Valley,” said Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Finance. In the last several quarters, foreign companies, such as Daimler and Toyota, have announced major investments in the Polish automotive industry.

Poland is ahead of other Central European countries when it comes to the production of light commercial vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, buses and coaches. The fastest-growing segment of the automotive industry in recent years is the production of automotive parts and accessories. The vast majority is exported abroad, where it is used in car assembly plants. The Polish automotive sector has many competitive advantages, such as the high geographical density of the manufacturers of individual parts, an excellent production infrastructure and favourable investment conditions, which encourage foreign investors to make automotive investments in Poland.
The large number of investments translates into growth in the size of the Polish automotive parts market. In Europe, Poland ranks twelfth in terms of the value of exported automotive part with a share of about 3 percent. According to the latest data from the Association of Distributors and Manufacturers of Automotive Parts, the annual revenues of automotive parts manufacturers in Poland amount to around €17 billion, of which 11 billion is revenue from exports.
