German project company STEAG GuD Herne, has signed an agreement with leading technology company Siemens, to construct the new combined cycle power plant (CCPP) in Herne, Germany.
As part of the contract terms, Siemens will serve as the general contractor for the construction of the planned power plant, which will be built at STEAG’s power plant site in Herne.
STEAG Essen CEO Joachim Rumstadt said: “We are convinced that Siemens is the right partner for this important and forward-looking project.

“As we know from our successful cooperation on previous projects, Siemens has excellent expertise as a builder of power plants. This is good news for Herne and the Ruhr area as a business location for the energy industry.”
To be built with an investment volume in the mid three-digit million euro range, the CCPP will have the capacity to create more than 600MW of electricity and an additional steam output of 400MW.
The project is expected to increase the overall fuel efficiency of the natural gas fuelled plant to over 85 percent.
The key components of the plant are to be manufactured in Germany and the steam turbine and the generator will be delivered by the Mülheim/Ruhr factory, while the H-class gas turbines will be manufactured at Berlin gas turbine factory of Siemens.
On completion, the Herne power plant will be one of the world's most efficient, environmentally friendly and also quietest plants.
The project company aims to start the preparatory work necessary for the setting up of the construction site such as the deconstruction of building structures and civil engineering work for drainage in relation with the approval procedure.
The final decision on the construction of the power plant is expected to be announced after the first half of 2019.
