The global plastics industry has shown an average growth of 4 to 5% since the year 2000 according to figures released by Plastics Europe. The data also shows that Africa and the Middle East accounts for 7.1% of total worldwide plastics production, showing that the regions have seen phenomenal expansion in polymerization capacities, along with the Asia-Pacific region.
The statistics were revealed by Messe Düsseldorf GmbH during a press conference in Dubai promoting the K 2019 plastic exhibition, which will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany from 16-23 October 2019.
The announcement was made in Dubai, UAE, in a region which is forecasted to see an average 5 to 6% expansion over the coming decade.
“Dubai, in particular, is a major player in the GCC’s plastics and rubber industry, making the emirate a strategic venue for us to announce the trade fair and tackle prospective growth prospects for the regional industry players,” Petra Cullmann, global portfolio director for plastics & rubber for Messe Düsseldorf.
Ms Cullmann went on to say: "Exhibitors from the UAE will have an opportunity to engage with their fellow exhibitors as well as visitors from all global continents convening in Düsseldorf for the leading event. Only in Düsseldorf can visitors experience and compare the varied and international range of developments, solutions and trends and enjoy a practical discourse with experts."
"In terms of importance, the K plastics flagship fair leaves all other international events of its kind far behind," she added.
Covering 18 halls and nearly 175,000 square metres, K 2019 will see a large group of exhibitors coming from Europe. In particular from Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland and Turkey. There will also be participants from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the US.
The exhibition will also look at issues around resources, energy and material efficiency.
“K 2019 underscores its special position not only through its popularity with the global industry but also by addressing the current challenges of our era and especially of its sector, first and foremost in regard to ‘plastics for sustainable development’ and the ‘circular economy,’” Cullmann said.
