The Chomerics Division of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced the launch of its new series of high-performance thermal greases. THERM-A-GREASE™ is an advanced paste with a thermally conductive filler material that draws away heat generated by circuit board components while filling very thin bond lines.

The series includes four highly reliable silicone-based greases offering thermal conductivity of 1.5 W/m-K (THERM-A-GREASE™ 15), 3.0 W/m-K (THERM-A-GREASE™ 30), 5.0 W/m-K (THERM-A-GREASE™ 50) and 7.0 W/m-K (THERM-A-GREASE™ 70), to deliver efficient heat dissipation in a host of electronics applications.
The minimum bond line of 0.025 mm ensures the products are suitable for applications with stringent manufacturing and assembly tolerances. THERM-A-GREASE™ operates effectively under low pressure, fulfilling heat transfer tasks that involve delicate or densely packed printed circuit board (PCB) components.
To further enhance performance and dependability, THERM-A-GREASE™ 15 and THERM-A-GREASE™ 30 feature a low thermal impedance of 0.097°C-cm²/W at 2.75 bar and 0.084°C-cm²/W at 6.89 bar (at the minimum bond-line thickness of 0.025 mm).
For applications requiring an even better conductor, THERM-A-GREASE™ 50 delivers a thermal impedance of 0.084°C-cm²/W at 2.75 bar and 0.071°C-cm²/W at 6.89 bar. For the ultimate low thermal impedance, THERM-A-GREASE™ 70 offers 0.065°C-cm²/W at 2.75 bar and 0.045°C-cm²/W at 6.89 bar. All figures are in accordance with the ASTM D5470 test method
The new thermal greases require only low compression force, deflecting easily under assembly pressure to minimise stress on components, soldered joints and PCB leads. This flexibility ensures user convenience, supporting easy application of THERM-A-GREASE™ via stencilling, screen printing or dispensing. The absence of any requirement for mixing, curing or refrigeration simplifies both application and storage, while rework in repair tasks is also straightforward.
A rigorous test regime means THERM-A-GREASE™ delivers exceptionally reliable thermal management in even the most extreme environments. The products withstand thermal cycling, long-term heat aging and high-humidity conditions, delivering stability without pumping out or hardening/cracking over time. Such attributes suit applications ranging from CPUs, GPUs and memory modules in the computing sector, as well as power supplies, power conversion equipment, lighting and automotive control modules.
Important electrical properties include 7.0 dielectric constant at 1,000 kHz (ASTM D150 test method) and 0.002 dissipation factor at 1,000 kHz (Chomerics test method).
The entire THERM-A-GREASE™ series is available in a range of packaging options that include manual syringe, EFD plastic cartridge, 8-ounce container and aluminium cartridge. Fill volumes range up to 300 cc.
