Finnish beverage brand Novelle is turning a familiar delivery technology into an interactive summer experience that rewards spontaneous encounters. While delivery robots have become an increasingly common sight in Nordic cities, Novelle is giving them a completely new role. Instead of transporting products, the brand's roaming robot is designed to create moments of interaction.

Hartwall Novelle Starship Robot
This June, the Novelle robot will travel through Finland’s biggest cities, Helsinki, Turku and Tampere, inviting passers-by to take part in a simple challenge. The robot doesn't simply wait for people to approach it. Instead, it actively seeks out interaction, stopping near passers-by and striking up a conversation with a simple opening line: "Show your thirst for life."
The activation draws on a familiar Finnish stereotype. In a country known for valuing personal space and keeping emotions relatively understated, Novelle wanted to see what happens when people are given a playful invitation to express themselves.
"We wanted to explore whether a robot could do more than just deliver products. Brands are constantly looking for new ways to create meaningful real-world interactions. Instead of handing someone a drink, we wanted to create a positive encounter first. The drink is simply a reward for taking part," Helsinki-based agency SEK creatives, Samuel Räikkönen and Noora Eskola, behind the campaign explain.
Combining technology with human guidance, the robot reacts to people's gestures, expressions, and participation. The activation repurposes a Starship Technologies delivery robot as an interactive brand experience. A happy wave, an impromptu dance move, or even a cartwheel can earn participants a bottle of Novelle's latest beverage.
From Delivery to Delight
The idea emerged from a simple observation: while robots are increasingly used to improve efficiency, they are rarely used to create emotional engagement.
"We've all seen robots delivering food or groceries," the creatives continue. "But what happens when a robot's purpose isn't efficiency, but delight? We became interested in using technology not to replace human interaction, but to encourage it."
The activation will take place in Helsinki on June 5–6 and continue in Tampere and Turku on June 12–13.
For Novelle, the campaign reflects the brand's belief in thirst for life – the idea that life's most meaningful moments are often found in everyday situations. Rather than creating those moments, the brand aims to celebrate them, encouraging people to embrace the small, unexpected experiences that can make an ordinary day feel a little richer.
