German-based producer of engineering-quality nylon materials for a range of industrial sectors, DOMO Chemicals is to build a new state-of-the-art facility in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang. The new €12-million plant will produce 50,000 tonnes of sustainable engineering nylon compounds annually.

In the first stage of the project's development, DOMO is planning to install multiple production lines at the 11,500 square metre facility with an estimated capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year. There will be enough additional space for expansion in future stages.
Ludovic Tonnerre, Vice President Global Engineering Plastics at DOMO, said: “DOMO Chemicals has only been operating in China since 2015, but we are growing rapidly. Despite the current coronavirus challenges, we are confident that China will lead the world in embracing a future generation of sustainability and e-mobility solutions. We are very grateful to the government and relevant departments for their patience and assistance and are confident in our long term cooperation, relationships and mutual opportunities.”
The plant's location in the port area of DuShan Pinghu city in the Zhejiang province of China, will put it in close proximity to Shanghai and give access to the East China Sea. The bulk of the products manufactured at the facility will be modified engineering plastics, such as nylon 6 and high-temperature nylon, which are growing markets and increasingly used in the automotive and electronics industries.
DOMO said in a press release that it will implement environmental protection measures that exceed legal requirements. These measures include investment in water and energy consumption reduction methods as well as air and water treatment technologies.
Due to the continued coronavirus issues, the contract for construction was signed remotely.
Fabrizio Cochi, General Manager Asia/Pacific at DOMO Chemicals commented: “When DOMO Engineering Plastics started in China, we operated a small plant with two machines, with the aim of supplying our global automotive customers. In 2019, despite the slowdown of the Chinese economy, we were already selling 6,000 tonnes of engineering nylon compounds to diverse local applications. I believe that we are about to enter a period of rapid development in China once today’s hurdles are overcome. We remain strongly committed to China and the APAC region.”
