Danish crane supplier Seasight Davits has received an order from Siemens Gamesa for 58 davits. The cranes are to be installed in the North Sea off the coast of Belgium at the the Otary group’s 487 MW Seamade offshore wind farm.
With an outreach of 3.2 m and a 1 tonne lifting capacity, the davit cranes will be mounted on the offshore wind turbine platforms and will be used for lowering and hoisting materials, tools and other equipment to and from supply boats.

The davits will be manufactured by Seasight Davits’ parent company, Hvide Sande Shipyard, Steel and Service.
Seasight said it is “excited” about the deal, it being the first with Siemens Gamesa and the crane supplier added it “hopes it is the beginning of a continuing cooperation”.
The first batch of davits should be delivered in April 2019.
With financial close on the Belgian wind farm projects having been made in December 2018, the way has been paved for construction activities to get underway in summer 2019. Commercial operations should begin by the end of 2020.
