Skanska has entered the next phase of a multi-part contract with Western Carolina University through the State of North Carolina Construction Office to build a mixed-use STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math) building in Cullowhee, NC, USA. The contract is worth $64 million, about SEK 570 million.

The 17,000m2 building will be a five-level building with state-of-the-art science labs and classroom spaces, along with a roof-top greenhouse and terrace making a sixth usable outdoor floor.
Once the construction of the new STEM facility is complete in 2021, the adjacent existing 1970s-era four-level science building will be demolished and replaced with a courtyard.
Construction started in July 2018, and the project is expected to be complete in October 2021.
