Messer, a manufacturer of industrial gases, has announced that it will be expanding its presence in Slovakia with the construction of a €10-million argon plant.
Michal Paľa, a representative of the company said: “It will be the biggest argon production in Slovakia and the first argon production plant in the Messer Group with off-gas processing.”
The new plant will be located in Šaľa and will be the largest argon production plant in Slovakia, capable to producing 7,500 tonnes of the gas annually.
Argon is the third-most abundant gas in the earth's atmosphere (0.934%). It has a low thermal conductivity but its electronic properties, such as ionization, make the gas desirable for certain applications like welding in a protective atmosphere, winemaking and medical applications.
The new investment in argon production focuses on waste gas processing technology from the secondary production facility for ammonia. The pure argon produced will be resold to neighbouring countries
“We are delighted that our parent company has decided to invest in its operations in Slovakia. It is Messer’s first argon plant that processes waste gas. We would like to commence production in Šaľa within 24 months,” said Michal Paľa, Managing Director of Messer Tatragas.
The announcement comes following Messer's €1.5-million investment in Šaľa in 2017 for the construction of a cylinder service and maintenance facility for the whole of Central Europe.
The German company said there will also be a €2.5m expansion of its 300 bar industrial gases filling plant.
