Denmark's Maersk Drilling is partnering with French oil giant Total to drill the deepest ever offshore well, in terms of water depth, off the coast of Angola, in south-west Africa. The Maersk Voyager drillship will begin work later this month on the 3,628 metre drill project.

The current world record of 3,400 metres was carried out for Total offshore Uruguay in 2016 and was undertaken by the Voyager's sister drillship, the Maersk Venturer.
Maersk will also execute a second well in Angolan waters, and one off the coast of Namibia. The project is set to run for 240 days and has a total value of €41.6-million. There are
