Saab AUV62-AT
Swedish defence and aerospace company Saab has received an order for the AUV62-AT anti-submarine warfare training system from the UK's Royal Navy. Completed delivery of the order is expected later this year.
Saab received the order in collaboration with QinetiQ, a British-based defence technology company. The purchase is for Saab's AUV62-AT autonomous underwater vehicle system and follows a long period of evaluation and testing between the Royal Navy and QinetiQ.
“We welcome the Royal Navy as our latest customer of the AUV62-AT. Together with QinetiQ we have demonstrated and used the AUV62-AT in multiple training scenarios to show the customer the true capability that comes with our state-of-the-art ASW solution,” says Head of Dynamics, Saab, Görgen Johansson.
Saab's underwater expertise stretch back to the early 1900's and today the Swedish firm manufacture a range of underwater vehicles including the Lightweight Torpedo, Sabertooth ROV/AUV hybrid and the AUV62-AT anti-submarine warfare training system.
State of the art and fully autonomous, the AUV62 is designed with long endurance missions over large distances in mind, all without operator interaction. The system is used for anti-submarine warfare training and the AUV62 MR for mine hunting, reconnaissance and surveillance.
