The French Ministry of Defence’s Direction de la Maintenance Aéronautique (DMAé) has signed a contract with Swedish defence and civil security firm Saab regarding support for the Giraffe AMB surface based radar system.
DMAé has responsibility for operational maintenance of the aeronautics equipment owned by the French Ministry of Defence. The contract covers an initial two-year period from January 2019 to January 2021 with an option to extend until 2026 and includes support, spare parts and maintenance.

“Long-term support is a key part of Saab’s offer and we look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with France. We are proud to support the French Armed Forces with our Giraffe AMB mobile command and control shelter, which features its own radar sensor” says Head of Saab’s business area Surveillance, Anders Carp.
The Giraffe AMB systems were first delivered to France in 2006. Since then, Saab's Giraffe AMB radar and command and control shelter has been used by the French Ministry of Defence for a range of tasks including military air surveillance. The majority of the work will be carried out at the Saab plant in Gothenburg, Sweden, with some tasks being done in France.
