Norwegian aerospace firm Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS has signed an agreement with Astranis Space Technologies Corp to supply communications equipment (TC&R). The order consists of the interface between the satellite and the ground and includes all the necessary equipment to transmit data in telemetric form.
California based telecom company Astranis is building their next generation satellite as part of the company mission to "get online the 4 billion people who are without internet access". The company has already signed an agreement with Alaska-based internet provider Pacific Dataport. The Astranis satellite will triple the satellite capacity available to the people of Alaska and Kongsberg's equipment forms an integral part of delivery.
Kongsberg's high-quality TC&R systems were "an important factor in the choice of supplier" according to a statement by Astranis.
"Kongsberg closely monitors developments in the satellite industry, including what is referred to as New Space, where we have products and services within a large part of the value chain," says Ingelin Drøpping, Executive Vice President Space & Surveillance at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS.
“Since 2009, Kongsberg has provided communication equipment (TC&R) to a number of satellite operators and platforms. For a total of 25 programs, more than 100 units are sold, and our solutions have been very well received in the market. We are proud to deliver a high quality level to Astranis”, says Ellen Tuset, Program Director Space Electronics at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS.
