ROCKWOOL Romania
The world's largest producer of mineral wool, ROCKWOOL Group, has opened its first manufacturing plant in Romania. The Danish company invested €50-million in the facility, which is located near Ploiești in the country's south-central region.
With an annual capacity of 45,000 tonnes, the new factory is the largest specialised plant in Romania.
ROCKWOOL's products manufactured at the Ploiești facility will mostly be used for making insulation used in construction, and mostly be sold in Romania as the country is one of Europe's largest insulation markets. A part of the production will be exported to neighbouring countries.
“The ROCKWOOL factory is ready after the end of a year-long construction effort, and we have already started commercial production. Now we can proudly say that we have the first ROCKWOOL Made in Romania. Our customers will have products of the same quality that we have become accustomed to over the last twenty years, but delivered faster,” said Florin Popescu, the business unit director at ROCKWOOL Balkans.
He added that the company's main aim is to create safe solutions for a variety of applications and to create products that are non-combustible, fire resistant, fully recyclable and contribute to energy efficiency.
The facility is already employing 150 people from the Prahova county, and plans to create an additional 300 jobs in the longer term.
“This investment will enable us to better support the Romanian government’s efforts to increase fire safety and energy efficiency in the country’s buildings,” ROCKWOOL Group vice president Gilles Maria said back in 2017 when the investment was announced.
