This year, Czech company RETOS VARNSDORF will be celebrating its 25th anniversary – but it has also been a year of change and development.
RETOS VARNSDORF s.r.o. was founded in 1993. The name is based on its original core activity: the retrofitting of TOS VARNSDORF horizontal boring and milling machines. The company is located at the premises of Arno Plauert machine tools. In 2004, the company began to produce new table-type boring mills – at first the well-known conventional W100A, which was later followed by the CNC version designed by RETOS.
In 2016, RETOS launched a T-type horizontal boring mill, the RET10X, which is a customisable modular machine and has been very well received, according to the company. This year, owing to the extension of its cooperation with its various agents, such as for example Strojimport Wiesbaden, the company has seen a considerable increase in requests for this machine as well as for the floor-type version RET10P of the same series. It has also sold several machines in various versions with accessories adjusted to customers’ needs, and is continuing to develop new accessories to meet the individual requirements. For example, it has developed in-house an automatic tool changing system with up to 125 robotically-changed tools. This tool was presented in a RET10X model at this year’s International Engineering Fair MSV in Brno.

The MSV exhibition was also where RETOS VARNSDORF celebrated its 25th anniversary. Karel Růžička gave a guitar concert and Managing Director Ing. Jan Müller played some of his own compositions. According to the company, this year’s show was the most successful in terms of visitor numbers for many years, and that, “even though many customers were interested in the new modular machines, the demand for overhauls was surprisingly unbroken.”
Owing to a rise in demand, the company is working on extending its production capacities. It is also building its employee base, through investing in professional training and making significant changes its sales, finance and electro engineering departments.
According to the company: “We are glad that the result is an even better working atmosphere and a closer cooperation within the company and with our agents. We are convinced that our customers, too, will benefit from these new stabilised structures.
“Like many companies in this manufacturing sector, we are currently having to deal with a lack of qualified workers and longer delivery times for supply parts and consequently for the machines. Nevertheless, regarding sales, 2018 is a very successful year and we are optimistic about meeting the challenges to come.”
