CECE, along with the other biggest European construction industry associations, has released the European Construction Industry Manifesto for Digitalisation, calling for appropriate regulatory frameworks across the EU on data policy and increased spending on digital skills, R&D and IT infrastructure.
The parties to the manifesto believe the construction industry – which currently accounts for 8.9% of GDP and more than 14 million jobs – is vital for building a stronger European economy by increasing its competitiveness on a global scale. But they say this can only be achieved through a recognition from EU policymakers that digitalisation is vital to sustain future growth. This should be prioritised within Horizon Europe research and innovation framework programme, which will follow the Horizon 2020 framework.

According to CECE Secretary General Riccardo Viaggi: “Digitalisation of the construction equipment sector has been a key priority for CECE. We recognise the importance of working in a value chain approach and, as the Manifesto reads, all industry representatives pledge to collaborate intensively, to lead and support the industry in order to enable a successful digital transformation of the construction industry.”
