Sweco acquires NRC group rail engineering business

Swedish engineering consultancy company Sweco has signed an agreement to acquire the rail infrastructure engineering and consulting services business from NRC Group. The acquisition cements the company's place as a major force in full service railway design in the region.

With the acquisition comes 320 new railway design experts in Sweden and Finland. In Finland, Sweco takes a market leading position within railway design engineering and becomes one of the largest players in the market in the fields of infrastructure, mobility and urban planning. 

The acquisition also strengthens Sweco's position in its home market in Sweden, as well as reinforcing its position in Northern Europe with 1,200 rail and light rail professionals.

The Finnish competition authority approval process for the acquisition has been initiated.
