Samsung lights up Bangkok with 360-degree forest theatre

Residents of Bangkok could soon have the full immersive theatre experience due to a new partnership Samsung Electronics has forged with the Magnolia Quality Development Corporation (MQDC) and its real estate project, The Forestias.

The project looks to combine forests with residential and commercial areas, and Samsung has installed a 360-degree animated screen in its Forest Pavilion that can reportedly deliver the highest definitions free from the restrictions of resolution with the picture apparently being made up of around 200 million pixels.

Nicknamed "The Wall," the enclosure of monitors has a combined surface area of around 140.43m² (1,511.18ft²) with a rough resolution of 46,080 x 4,320 pixels. This is more than 25-times standard 4K TVs, which typically clock in at around 8 million pixels, and 100-times more than 1080p setups.

The theatre itself has been dubbed "Chamber of Secrets," and videos and images are designed to wrap around the entire setup. Samsung referred to it as the "highlight" of the Forest Pavilion, found at the centre of the complex.

The Forestias is a Thailand-based real estate project that looks to return humans to nature, where "nature, animals and humans live together in a healthy, high-quality environment."

Located in Bangkok, 56% of the area is made up of forest and green space designed to encourage residents to explore. The extra oxygen could also help combat air pollution in the city.

At 636,000 square metres, the entire project is designed to be sustainable while also alleviating many issues with build-up areas, such as a lack of natural land or greenery.

Construction on the project commenced in 2018, with some modules having been completed. Once finished, it will be home to a "6-star boutique hotel," a community and family centre and public spaces such as restaurants, cafes and offices.

Forestias president Keerin Chutumstid said the partnership with Samsung puts the project on track to meet its goals to create public spaces that benefit "all life on Earth."

He added that visitors get "to experience Thailand’s first community designed for health and happiness of nature, animals and humans" and that The Wall enables The Forestias to immerse visitors in an experience that feels as close to reality as possible."

The theatre currently functions as a sales gallery but will soon be transformed into a communal learning area for residents.
