SteelZero gets three new members

Three major steelmakers - B+M Steel, Eiffage Métal France and Skanska UK - have signed up to the SteelZero project, pledging to procure and stock only net-zero steel by 2050.

The pledge also includes a commitment to using 50% "responsibly-produced" steel by 2030.

Together, B+M Steel and Skanska UK represent a significant proportion of the UK steel market. The two join other companies in the project including Grosvenor Property UK, Severfield, William Hare and WSP UK.

Eiffage Métal France, of which SteelZero member Smulders is a subsidiary, joins a growing base of European SteelZero members. The EU represents a significant target region for SteelZero, being the second biggest global steel demand after Asia-Pacific.

SteelZero is a global initiative created by global non-profit Climate Group in partnership with ResponsibleSteel. The aim is to bring together businesses in the sector to speed up the transition to a net-zero steel industry.
