The long-lasting surface treatment designed to kill coronavirus

Finnish chemical company AFFIX Labs have recently created an antimicrobial surface cleaner supposedly capable of killing 99.9% of SARS-COV-2, a strain of the coronavirus.

Si-Quat has been in development since January and combines a safe and well-established disinfectant and proprietary chemical binding technique so that the active ingredient can kill any pathogens it comes into contact with.

It was specifically engineered to help deal with the coronavirus outbreak, which has become a major issue in the seven months since its introduction.

The agent is effective within minutes and is both non-toxic and non-corrosive when it comes into contact with human skin. The testing performed at Portugal’s Biochemistry Institute mandates the chemical is effective for about a month on frequently touched surfaces.

AFFIX announced that several major agencies have already accepted quaternary ammonium, which is the main ingredient in the agent to be an effective treatment against coronavirus, including WHO, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC).

AFFIX claim Si-Quat is capable of adhering to almost any surface and that it performs as the most durable surface treatment commercially available, according to research conducted by the company.

Due to its strong layer, it only begins to wear down on surfaces after thousand of touches or multiple cleaning cycles, the company announced.

They say that, because of this reason, Si-Quat is particularly effective on surfaces that humans frequently comes into contact with, such as door handles, kitchen counters and desks.

It can supposedly remain adhered to rarely-touches surfaces such as walls for several years.

Since the product is easy-to-use, technicians require minimal training and only basic protection. They simply have to brush or spray the agent to apply it and then allow it to dry for roughly six hours.

Mr Sam added: “Other sanitising solutions require reapplication to every surface several times daily, interrupting business operations. This results in additional costs and disruptions at a time when many companies are already struggling.

“By combining proven efficacy, safety and long durability, Si-Quat is emerging as an important weapon in the battle against the spread of COVID-19.”
