Slovenia's Optotek acquired by France's Quantel Medical

French healthcare provider Quantel Medical, part of the laser technology specialists Lumibird group has announced the acquisition of Slovenia's Optotek Medical for an undisclosed sum.

A statement from Lumibird said: “This acquisition marks the culmination of the longstanding collaboration established between the two companies through OEM [original equipment manufacturer] contracts to develop and supply devices for Quantel Medical’s range of anterior chamber lasers.” 

Optotek Medical specialises in optical and laser solutions for medical applications and the acquisition will allow the French company to strengthen its research and development capabilities for medical lasers and the technology's industrial applications with the Ljubljana-based ISO 13485 certified production facility.

In a statement, Quantel Medical’s manager, Jean Marc Gendre said: “The co-developments by Quantel Medical and Optotek Medical over nearly 20 years have made it possible to bring innovative solutions to the market for the treatment of secondary cataracts and glaucoma.”

The statement also said that technological, industrial and commercial synergies between Quantel and Optotek will allow for better competition of the ophthalmic lasers already on the market, while accelerating new product development.

Present in Europe, Asia and America, Lumibird Group was created through the merging of Quantel and Keopsys Groups in 2017, employs over 500 people and has revenues in excess of €100-million.
