Voltalia to begin Albanian solar park construction in November

Albania's minister of infrastructure and energy Belinda Balluku has announced that French renewables company Voltalia is expected to start the construction of a 140 MW photovoltaic park in Karavasta coastal area in November.

The Albanian government expects fast progress in the field operations once they start, Balluku said in an interview with ATA news agency.

Voltalia won the tender for the construction of the solar power park in late May. Under the contract, Voltalia will sell half of the electricity produced at the solar park to Albania's state energy distribution company for €24.89 per MW/hour, less than half the price ceiling of €55. The remaining half will be sold in the market.

Albania's energy ministry opened the tender for the construction of the solar park near the southwestern city of Fier in January. The project is expected to have a total cost of around €128 million.
