Pro Carton launches student video award to promote cartonboard

Pro Carton has announced the launch of a brand-new award scheme aimed primarily at marketing, media, business and film students in Europe with €5,000 going to the winning entry. The Pro Carton Student Video Award challenges students to create a short promotional video about the benefits of cartons and cartonboard.

Launched by the European Association of Carton and Cartonboard manufacturers, students can enter the competition for free by submitting a short video lasting between 30 seconds and two and a half minutes, exploring the advantages of using cartonboard packaging. Entrants are encouraged to ‘think outside the box’ in terms of the video style, with the brief open to interpretation.

Tony Hitchin, General Manager of Pro Carton said: “We are delighted to launch this new initiative which invites students to highlight and promote the advantages of eco-friendly cartonboard - a material that is renewable, recyclable and biodegradable. With more than 30 years representing the interests of the carton and cartonboard industry, we are encouraging young marketing and film students to bring a fresh approach to our ongoing work by telling the story through the medium of video.”

The launch follows on from the hugely successful Pro Carton Young Designers Award which has now become one of the biggest student creative design competitions in Europe.

The judging panel will consist of experts from the world of marketing, film and cartonboard packaging, who will independently review and rate the video entries. In addition to the €5,000 prize, the winner(s) of the inaugural award will be invited to visit the city of Krakow in Poland to collect their prize at the Gala Awards dinner at the European Carton Makers Association (ECMA) Congress this September.

As a visual tool to tell the world about the benefits of cartonboard, the successful video will be used across Pro Carton’s social media channels, as well as in presentations at events and on the Pro Carton website.

Hitchin concluded: “Whether it’s product protection or consumer convenience, the benefits of cartonboard are endless and we can’t wait to see what these young videographers produce. Who knows, maybe their videos could go viral and make them famous!  Best of luck to all those who enter.”
