Nokia to partner with Converge ICT to provide ultra-fast broadband to the Philippines

Finnish phone titan Nokia is set to partner with leading Filipino ISP Converge ICT to supply the island of Mindanao with ultra-fast broadband by deploying Nokia's fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) solution.

With this plan, the coalition will be able to provide fast and affordable fibre-optic broadband to over 300,000 homes and businesses over the next three years.

The partnership will allow Converge to deliver a differentiated broadband service with the goal of seamlessly evolving their model over time. The deployment uses nodes from the Nokia Lightspan FX series, which will allow the ISP to flexibly integrate their broadband and upgrade to next-generation technologies such as both XGS  and 25G PON to allow for higher data transfers as well as access to higher-level Software-defined access networks (SDANs) through a software upgrade.

Nokia hopes this will allow the Philippines to lay the foundations towards a  digital future by providing broadband infrastructure of this calibre to more far-flung regions of the country.

The ready availability of fibre-optic broadband will allow the island to thrive economically while strengthening the digital capabilities of industries and government-run facilities.

Higher-ups at both companies welcome the partnership.

Don Abad, the Head of Customer Team at Nokia Philippines, said: "We are delighted to support Converge ICT in its mission to provide superior broadband services to its customers.

"Our fibre solutions will help Converge ICT bring enhanced ultra-broadband services to its subscribers across the Mindanao region while our 7360 ISAM FZ product portfolio will enable them to capture a greater share of the lucrative broadband services market."

Dennis Anthony Uy, the founder and CEO at Converge ICT, said: "Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, people have started to increasingly use digital platforms to complete a number of day-to-day tasks for which they demand an agile broadband network.

"Our network infrastructure will allow us to provide best-in-class broadband networks to our subscribers especially during unprecedented times like these. We are confident that Nokia's fibre solutions will enable us to enhance the overall quality of our services."
