Skanska awarded €280m Norway roadbuilding contract
Swedish building contractor Skanska has been awarded a NOK3 billion (€283 billion) contract for the construction of a major new motorway in eastern Norway.
The 8.4 km (5.3 mi) stretch of the proposed four-lane motorway will run from Bjørum in Bærum municipality to Skaret in Hole municipality.
In the final procurement process round, Skanska and its partner Aas-Jakobsen competed against Implenia/Multiconsult and AF Gruppen/Norconsult for the contract.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration cited its reasons for choosing Skanska were made against four criteria:
- organisation and key personnel;
- completion of the assignment;
- progress;
- quality of the facility.
The contract includes the construction of two tunnels - of 800m (0.5mi) and 3.4km (2.1mi) respectively - and eight bridges, the longest of which spans 220m (721ft).
The contract calls for excavation, blasting, loading, transportation and disposal of excavated materials. Demolition of existing buildings and the rerouting of in-ground cables and pipes are also required.

During the project, which is due for completion by the summer of 2025, it is anticipated that some 3million m3 of material will be excavated.
Construction work is scheduled to begin in February 2021.
