Saint-Gobain to invest €45 million in Romania
The French construction materials producer Saint-Gobain has announced an investment in the construction of a second plasterboard manufacturing line in its Turda plant, in northern Romania.
This €45 million investment aims to considerably increase the plasterboard manufacturing capacity in Romania in order to meet the rapidly growing local needs as well as those of the Central and Eastern European countries and to secure Saint-Gobain's leadership position in light construction markets.

The line is expected to be operational in April 2023. With this investment, Saint-Gobain further reinforces its leadership position in the South-East European region as the reference actor in the building materials sector.
The French group has already invested some € 350 million in its twelve plants in Romania, where it employs over 1,800 people. The company expects demand for construction materials to increase, which would launch a new development stage of Saint-Gobain business in the region.
In Romania, the company currently offers a complete range of solutions and systems, with its 22 production lines manufacturing gypsum, mineral wool, mortars, building and automotive glass, and abrasives.
"Given that projects in the residential sector have intensified, especially in the case of premium residential projects, new single-family homes, but also renovations, we expect an upward trend for the Saint-Gobain Group. The medium and long-term prospects are solid," said Ovidiu Pascutiu, CEO of Saint-Gobain Group in Romania.
“The new investment, just like the previous ones in Romania, is contributing to the significant decrease of the carbon footprint through new solutions that help to improve the building’s energy efficiency,” he affirmed.

Two years ago, the group upgraded its float glass production line at the plant in Calarasi, the regional hub for flat glass for Romania and the Balkans. The investment aimed to increase the plant's manufacturing performances and to lower its energy consumption by about 20%.
