Garbe enters the Slovak market

German logistics and real estate company Garbe Industrial Real Estate is preparing to enter the Slovak market as it looks to expand its footprint in Central Eastern Europe.

The company has acquired land in Piešťany, eastern Slovakia, with a zoning permit comprising 70,000 m2. This follows the company’s successful penetration of the Czech market.

Garbe’s plans in the town include the development of two buildings with a total size of 26,000 m2.

The new Garbe Green Park Piešťany will be developed in line with the highest European sustainable standards. Both buildings will feature photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps, ensuring a minimal carbon footprint during operations. Circular water usage and the park's own water source encourage efficient water management and water recycling. Operating costs in the park are minimal.

“The protection of the environment and the highest quality of our properties are very important. We want to cooperate with companies which share the same values. As a German family business, we follow the highest European sustainable standards, adjusted to the local needs of logistics and production companies. The aim is to provides them with ideal industrial spaces,” said Martin Polak, Managing Director Garbe for Central Eastern Europe.

So far, Garbe has focused mainly on logistics real estate in the four Western European markets of Germany, the Netherlands, France and Austria. The plans for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) will initially focus on Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The company expects to move ahead with its first projects by mid-year.

CEO Christopher Garbe commented: “Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia report the fastest growth rates in the e-commerce sector in Central Eastern Europe. Since the growth coincides with a large sales market, a low wage level and an established logistics market, these countries represent an interesting investment destination for investors. The favourable economic environment suggests that the real estate market will continue to grow in the future.”

Operating since the 1980s, GARBE has consistently expanded its European activities in recent years. In addition to Central Europe, the company is reinforcing its position in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Austria.
