Employee-Owned UK Firm Honoured With Trio Of Manufacturing Awards

A Yorkshire-based business is celebrating a trio of award wins from the UK's key manufacturing industry body.

Gripple, the wire joining device and suspension system manufacturer, won all three categories it entered in the Make UK Awards. It came away from the North East, Yorkshire and Humber virtual award ceremony in October with trophies in Business Growth and Strategy, Developing Future Talent and Business Apprentice of the Year.

Make UK, the organisation which champions manufacturing and drives the competitive advantage of UK manufacturers, created the awards to recognise the very best in British industry.

Ed Stubbs, managing director of Gripple UK, explains: “We’re incredibly proud of the whole team and the determination, dedication and resilience they’ve shown throughout this turbulent year, which has earned us not one, but three awards in an event which is recognised across the whole of the manufacturing industry.”

The Business Growth and Strategy category was looking for ‘dynamic business growth that consistently delivered growth strategy’.

It was employee-owned Gripple’s approach towards long-term sustainability for the benefit of its staff and stakeholders and its aim to create employment for generations to come, that won the company first place.

The Developing Future Talent award was won for its comprehensive employee development scheme which includes graduate and apprentice programmes and has contributed to an 84% increase in staff since 2016.

Estelle Smith was awarded Business Apprentice of the Year (Final Year) for the contribution she has made to the internal sales team whilst studying for NVQ levels 2, 3 and 4. Estelle has since been given a full-time contract after strengthening customer relationships to the highest level and making significant contributions to the team’s sales targets.
