by

Holcim Romania has announced that it is set to acquire Somaco, a Romanian prefabricated concrete producer. Holcim Romania is part of Switzerland's LafargeHolcim Group, a major supplier of ready-mixed concrete and cement.

The deal is still subject to approval from the Romanian antitrust authorities.

“Somaco is a successful business, with a wealth of experience on the local building materials market,” said Horia Adrian, CEO of Holcim Romania. “We want to bring them into the LafargeHolcim family so that together we can better deliver sustainable, wide-ranging solutions that will meet the real needs of our clients.”

Somaco operates five prefabricated concrete factories across Romania, which produce in Teiuș, Timișoara, Târgoviște, Buzău, and Roman and a facility which produces AAC blocks in Adjud. In 2018, Somaco had a turnover of €56-million and employs 750 people.

LafargeHolcim is present in 80 countries worldwide, employing more than 80,000 people.
