Airedale Chemical is making investments in its surfactants offering in a bid to become a major player in the surfactant market.
Following the recent appointment of a new market manager for surfactants, the speciality chemical manufacturer has also introduced a number of new surfactants and invested in storage capabilities allowing it to fill surfactant orders from 25kg to bulk quantities.
Elaine O’Neill, market manager – surfactants, at Airedale Chemical, said: “We have invested heavily in this area of the business as we see huge potential for reaching new markets and customers by increasing our capacity and providing new products.
“We have developed our in-house expertise and used that knowledge to source and manufacture new products that we believe fill a hole in the market for cost-effective and high-performance products.
“We have also been helping our existing customers to formulate their own products and offer alternative ingredients to help them improve their products and reduce costs.”

Airedale Chemical now offers surfactants in varying dilutions which allows greater flexibility in storage and handling. Surfactants exposed to colder conditions can solidify but greater dilutions keep products in liquid form and are therefore easier to transport and handle.
Elaine added: “Our newest surfactant products, Airsurf SS28 and SS70 are synthetically-derived to provide an alternative to surfactants made from natural sources such as palm and coconut oil which can be subject to fluctuating prices due to low-yield and have been formulated to provide the same function as the naturally-derived surfactants. Customers are also looking for alternatives to palm oil derived surfactants as the rising demand for palm oil production is claimed to contribute to substantial and irreversible environmental degradation.
“Surfactants are widely used and can be found in many of our everyday items from shower gel to kitchen cleaners and demand is expected to grow further in the coming years so it makes sense for us to invest in this area and address the needs and concerns of our customers.”
Airedale Chemical’s own brand of surfactants, Airsurf, has applications in home, industrial and institutional cleaning, personal care, agrochemical, oil and gas and textiles. There are currently 15 variations of Airsurf of varying solutions, dilutions and high or low foam.
